The Museum of the City of Umag is located at the very top of the beautiful historic city peninsula.
It is located in the 14th-century Episcopal Tower, which once served as a fortress to defend the city from potential attacks on the coast.
The museum was opened to the public in 1976 with a then modest, small collection of stone monuments and works of art. Nowadays, after the museum bought and secured private collections, it expanded considerably. We can say that today the museum has been established as a quality cultural and research institution.
Beautiful fine art and temporary exhibitions are on display on the first floor; while the second floor has a permanent layout. Don’t miss the ancient epigraphs with tombstones and the coat of arms of former Venetian city leaders.
