The hamlet of Soline is located on the south side of the island of Mljet, on the same side as the bay of Sutmiholjska, where the Benedictines had their first contact with Mljet. Since there was no road on the island at the time of the arrival of the Benedictines, the Benedictines were probably sailing the sea while looking for a place to build a monastery. On the site of today's Solin, there were no settlements during the Benedictine rule. The first family to inhabit Soline was the Srshen family in 1825. Today the population is engaged in fishing and tourism. Unlike many other inhabitants of the island, the inhabitants of Solin did not base their economy so much on agriculture. Due to the close proximity of the lake and the tranquility, conditioned by natural isolation, Soline is, touristically, a very popular island town.
