Bire Winery is located in Lumbarda on the island of Korcula. It is best known for its indigenous Grk white wine. Although the Grk succeeds in other areas as well, it gives the best results on the Island of Korcula, so it has become a kind of synonym for the Island. One legend says that it got its name from the fact that it was brought to Korcula by the ancient Greeks, while another legend says that it was named after its bitter taste ('gorkast' in Croatian). Bire Winery is owned by winemaker Frano Milina, who has restored terraced traditional vineyards, more than a century old. It is also the first ecological vineyard on the island of Korcula. Apart from the Grk, the winery also produces Plavac and Rose.
