The weather station in Varaždin, also known as “Vura” (colloquial for ‘clock’), is located near the Vatroslava Jagicha promenade, in the Street of Alojzije Stepinac, and is a favourite meeting place of the locals. It is a charming turn-of-the-century feature with a metal rectangular body housing the measuring instruments encased in glass. The capital is decorated with rosettes, figures of dragons, and a weather vane. The station was made in Vienna and brought to Varaždin and has been standing on its three-stair pedestal since September 9 1911. While it underwent a thorough renovation in the 1990s, including the replacement of the measuring devices, at the time of making it was one of the most modern and progressive weather station devices.
