The wealthy Rigo family belonged to a native nobleman from Novigrad, and its members held major public functions in the city for centuries.

As authentic representatives of the city's nobility, the Counts of Rigo in 1770 financed the construction of a new, beautiful city palace.

This imposing building is a fine example of Central European Baroque, and its decorations match the designs of Istrian and Italian architecture.

Since the renovation of the facade in 1994, the ground floor houses a gallery of modern and contemporary art that proudly bears the name of the Rigo family.
