The village of Postira hides another Roman-Christian gem: Mirje. During Roman times there was a villa rustica built on this location, the foundations of which served as the starting point for the construction of the early-Christian basilica, built in the 6th century. It had a cloister and was dedicated to St. Stephen. The Benedictine monastery was in turn built around its remains during the medieval times. Because of the abundance of historical layers in this location it is considered one of the richest archaeological sites on the island. It has appropriately been protected as cultural heritage.
