Makarska Observatory and Astro-Park form a unique scientific and tourist component of Makarska. Apart from being the youngest observatory in the Republic of Croatia, it is unique for several other reasons: it was built on an existing monument, located in the city center on a small hill, 50 m from the waterfront. The Makarska Observatory was built in the memorial center of the Second World War, built in 1974 in honor of all fallen fighters from the Makarska and Makarska Riviera. It is the work of the famous architect Matija Salaj († 2014), one of the pioneers of architects in terms of tourism on our coast.
