The Church of Our Lady of Karavaj in Tisno was built at the end of the 18th century, and its origins are connected to the Gelpi family who moved to Tisno from Italy. They brought with them a picture of Our Lady's apparitions in Caravaggio and had a chapel built for it. Over time, the worship of Our Lady grew, so the church was expanded and reconstructed several times. There are 214 steps leading to the church, which pilgrims often pass on their knees, in order to fulfill the vows to Our Lady. On May 26, the feast of Our Lady of Karavaj is celebrated with a great ceremony and pilgrimage.
