Vela Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Krk, as well as one of the most famous ones. It is nearly 2 kilometers long (1800 meters, to be exact) and it is an integral part of the landscape of Bashka. It’s terrain is made of small pebbles and fine gravel which makes for easy and comfortable sunbathing. The sea comes in shallow so you won’t have trouble with water access, either. This beach was awarded the international Blue Flag certificate in 1999, so you can rest assured it meets the highest standard of environmental quality. This means it is suitable for wheelchair users, children and non-swimmers, with deckchairs and beach umbrellas available for rent. Along with the usual facilities like showers and toilets, you will find a number of bars and restaurants along the beach, with ample space and plenty on offer for a family lunch. In case you’d like to do more than swim and sunbathe Vela Beach has pretty much everything you might want in terms of beach entertainment. Kids will have no trouble spending the entire day playing on the children’s playground and in the aqua park. There is a SUP rental service on the beach, as well as the possibility of renting water tubes and water mattresses. The adults can also go parasailing and riding on the tourist train will prove equally fun for both children and their parents. You can access the beach by car, by bike or on foot (parking is available next to the beach and is charged) and a part of the beach has been designated for visitors with pets. However you choose to spend your day on Vela Beach you won’t be disappointed by its amenities nor by the beautiful impeccably blue sea stretching in front of you to meet the horizon. You can find the Vela Luka Beach on the south east of Krk island, at the very end of Vela luka bay. This pebble and gravel beach is a great option for anyone who prefers a quieter beach experience in the natural surroundings of sea rocks and caves. While slightly secluded you will still find the basic amenities here: toilets and beach umbrellas and deck chairs for rent. In case you get hungry there is a restaurant next to the beach to take care of your appetite. Water access is easy here since the sea comes in shallow so children will find it comfortable, as well as those who are not so confident of their swimming skills. You won’t be able to reach this beach by car, but you can get to it by boat or on foot. If you choose to arrive by sea you can rent a taxi boat in Bashka port. However, if you’re up for a little adventure you can take the hiking trail from Buncaluka camp that will take you over the small hill and down into the Vela luka bay. It will take you about 2.5 to 3 hours to complete the route, depending on your speed, but the hiking itself will be a lovely experience and the beach scenery well worth it. Don’t forget to wear your best trekking shoes and bring plenty of water and a hat since there is no natural shade here.
