The Rovinj History Research Center was founded in 1968 by the Italian Union, the most important entity that advocates for the rights of the Italian minority in Croatia and Slovenia.
The Center is conceived as a relevant scientific and research institution whose task is to engage in objective processing of facts, customs and events in the complex history of Istria, specific due to its geopolitical position and long-adopted principles of multiethnicity and multiculturalism, with emphasis on the Italian minority. Within the Center, in addition to research, the fully computerized Scientific Library stands out, which today contains about 100,000 titles of great bibliographic value. In 1995, the library acquired the status of a depository library of the Council of Europe, with a special section on human and minority rights.
