This Mediterranean swamp east of Trogir is the meeting place of the river Rika and the sea, with the waters of both mixing in the lake and creating a rich and diverse ecosystem. Its shores, including the sand dune that surrounds the swamp’s lagoon, are the feeding and resting grounds for 196 avian species, 45 of which have made a permanent home here. Among the 43 fish species several of them are rare and endangered. During your walk in this lovely area you’ll be able to spot storks, herons and ducks, as well as seagulls, and perhaps catch a sight of eels speeding though the swamp’s waters. This precious place spreads over only 40 hectares and is under constant threat of unregulated human activity.
