The City Museum was founded on December 6, 1924, thanks to Julius Kempf, a prominent Pozhega native, historian, author of the first monograph on Pozhega and Pozhega County, educator, participant in the public life of the city and mayor.
Five departments (Archaeological, Historical, Historical-Artistic with Gallery, Ethnological and Natural History) take care of about 30,000 items. The museum also has a Pedagogical Department, a Documentation Department, a Museum Library and a Department for General and Technical Affairs.
