Located outside the city walls, it was built to protect the city of Dubrovnik from Venetian attacks, and generally to protect the sea approach to the city. Today, this fortress is famous because during the summer months, many performances are held as part of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the most famous of which is Shakespeare's Hamlet. With its stone and solid structure it will stand proudly far into the future.
